Marion Municipal Airport
N38-20.25 W96-59.50 HISTORY: In 1945, the citizens of Marion approved a $10,000 bond issue which was used to purchase 160 acres of ground and to construct buildings. An Airport Board was appointed by the Marion City Commission and is still an intricate part of the airport operation. UPGRADES: In 2005 the City of Marion applied for and recieved a grant to complete $100,000.00 worth of upgrades to the airport which included resurfacing the runway, resurfacing the taxiway, new airplane tie down area and new runway lights. LOCATION: The Airport is located two miles southeast of Marion and less that a mile from the Marion County Lake. RUNWAYS: The elevation of the airport is 1390’. Currently, the asphalt runway is 2,540 feet long, 45 feet wide running 17 north and 35 south, lighted dusk to dawn with asphalt taxi ways that connect the hangars, tie down area and runway. There are two turf runways one 2,722 feet long, 50 feet wide running 13 northwest - 31 southeast and one 2,745 feet long, 50 feet wide running 21 northeast - 3 southwest. HANGARS: Six hangars are available for rent (varies from $50-$90 per month), with storage capacity of 22 airplanes.
